Woman Puts A Lock On Her Freezer After Her Neighbors Are Caught Stealing

Being a decent human being is not difficult.

With the way the world is currently going, one would think that humans have forgotten how to be kind and neighbourly. And, while there aren’t many decent people in the world who don’t do everything for selfish reasons, they do exist. I’m sure we’ve all had to deal with entitled neighbours who take whatever they want from the neighbourhood because they believe they deserve it. In my experience, I’ve only ever met these types of neighbours. However, in this Reddit story, we have a great example of a neighbour who tries to help the people around her.

This woman, you see, likes to leave out popsicles and ice cream for the kids in the neighbourhood. Anyone who dislikes summer understands how difficult it can be to run regular errands when the sun is shining on your back. That is why, at times, a cold sweet treat can be just what you need. And that is exactly what OP intended to provide for the community. However, one family did not appreciate this and began to take advantage of the generosity.

The title makes her sound quite a lot more petty than she actually is.

She just likes to put out ice cream for the kids around the neighbourhood.

Since she already had an extra deep freezer, she decided to put it to use.

Things were going well as everyone took what they needed.

Except for the new neighbours and their kids.

So when she caught them red-handed, she put a lock on the freezer to stop this from happening.

The new neighbors however weren’t big fans of this at all.

And that is how she ended up on Reddit asking for help.

She laid out the explanation as to why she thinks she might be wrong.

I am confident she made the correct decision. It’s not like she could have done anything else. She tried to talk to them about it, but they were never interested in the first place. As a result, the only option was to lock the freezer. I’m sure it makes the neighbours think they’re thieves, but that’s exactly what they were doing. And, because it was just ice cream, the adults could have bought it for themselves instead of using the freezer that was for the kids in the neighbourhood. I am glad, however, that the other neighbours came to OP’s defence.

However, people in the comments don’t think that she did anything wrong.

The neighbors were clearly stealing and they got what was coming to them.

I don’t get how someone would not feel embarrassed in this situation.

If only they had apologized.

Atleast all the other kids still get ice cream.

People like these always ruin things for others.
