I am dying of second-hand embarrassment.
Do you ever look at a logo or a line and have to double-check it to make sure you are reading it right or if it is just your dirty mind? Yeah? Well, that tends to happen a lot. Especially to people with bad handwriting, trying to make out what they have written can be difficult but sometimes the words appear to look like something they are not. This is where dirty-minded people take up the opportunity and turn it into humour. It isn’t just manual handwriting though. Any great designer would put a lot of effort into kerning. Kerning is defined as the spacing between letters or characters. This is to make sure the text is clear and readable, and can not be manipulated as something else. So it has a lot of importance when it comes to graphic designing and a lot of other things. It is not just a piece of cake. Believe it or not, even minor details like kerning matter a lot when it comes to presentation. So we can say not everyone can be a great graphic designer without focusing on these little details.
But you will see a lot of manual letter-spacing fails on other things as well. Such as cakes or cards. Why am I putting so much focus on letter-spacing? Are you getting bored? Well, you will see what I mean by the importance of letter-spacing when you see the images listed below. I would hate to be the owner of any of these things presented to me that just looks plain embarrassing. This is what we call an epic fail. Scroll down below to see 20 1mbarrassing examples of why letter-spacing is important:
