Father Punishes Daughter For Eating Brother’s Food, Teaches Her A Valuable Lesson

Reddit user u/slicedthin he tries his best to keep the family’s grocery expenses as low as possible and his wife supports him. The couple only cooks dinner for everyone every day and breakfast on the weekends. For the rest, their kids and OP’s father have to support themselves. OP’s son loves cooking so he cooks his own lunch while the daughter hates it, so she most often buys her lunch.

One time when the brother cooked himself some potato ships, the daughter ate them all while he was in his room. The two started fighting over the matter as the brother said he cooked the chips so they belonged to him. The daughter argued back by saying the chips were made of potatoes that were bought for the whole family. OP supported his son in this situation to teach his daughter a lesson but she accused her father of being a terrible person for punishing his own daughter for eating.

I think the daughter is being a bit ridiculous, but I don’t understand this whole rule about everyone working for their lunch. These kids aren’t even 18 yet, I personally believe their parents need to do better and at least feed the whole family three times a day till their kids have reached an independent age.

I personally think was NTA because he actually tried teaching his daughter a solid lesson against entitlement. You cannot grab anyone’s stuff and own it thinking they wouldn’t say anything. The brother was right to object! He cooked those chips so they belonged to him unless, of course, he had said clearly anyone could eat them. Because he didn’t, no one had the right to those chips except the one who cooked them. I hope OP’s daughter understands the lesson she was taught. Also, the stance she is taking about her father being terrible for punishing her, I hope she drops it and realizes the true aspects of why he didn’t take her side.

Here’s what the AITA community had to say about this:

8. The potatoes that were bought for everyone, she could’ve taken one and made chips for herself.

10. So weird of the daughter to say OP was teaching his son to be greedy without even realizing what he really was doing.
