Mother Doesn’t Want Daughter’s Step-Sister To Spend Christmas With Them

Christmas is one of the most anticipating festivals all year. Especially for children as they set their schedule up for the big day months ago and confidently tick off the to-do goals one by one on the big day.

However, for one little girl, only 5 years old, the first question of who to spend the Christmas with was yet to be answered.

Reddit user u/Christmas_Joy231 shared after taking divorce from her husband, he married another woman and has a 5 year old girl with him. Because his current wife was undergoing treatment for her cancer, the ex-husband showed up at OP’s house one day to request if she could allow his daughter to celebrate the year’s Christmas with OP and her family.

The ex-husband was met with a refusal as OP shared her family celebrates Christmas in a very sacred way and no one, including the girl, would feel comfortable with her being there.

4. One time when the husband came to OP’s to drop their daughter off, he requested if OP could make his daughter a part of her Christmas celebration for the year.

5. OP refused by saying Christmas was celebrated in a very specific, traditional way in her family and the sacred nature of the gathering won’t let her allow his daughter to celebrate Christmas with her and her family.

I am slightly confused here. There are two pathway currently opened in my mind and I will share them both.

First, this is Christmas we are talking about and the girl is only 5. She could have been accommodated as I am sure the sacred nature of the event only pertains to the adults and the little one would have had a great time playing with her half-sister.

With that being said, there is a second factor raising voices in my head. The little girl is only 5 years old and her mother, who is going through rigorous cancer treatment, may not be there with her for the next year’s Christmas. So. In my opinion the father should have never made this request to OP. He should have tried to have his family gel in by celebrating Christmas together with his sick wife and little girl.

I personally side slightly more with the second factor compared to the first one because if the doctors declare that woman terminal, the girl won’t have another Christmas to spend with her mother.

7. OP remained firm and asked her ex-husband to take his daughter to spend Christmas with her grandparents if he doesn’t want her to spend it with her mother.

8. OP asked her ex-husband to drop the argument and leave. He did leave but continued to make the same request through text messages.

9. OP’s only response, though, was “no”.

10. This is what I was talking about. This could be the mother’s last Christmas.

11. Making her part of the Christmas celebration would have been awkward because no one in OP’s close or extended family knew the girl much.

12. Sure you can credit some of it to the girl having a good time with her half-sister but that’s it. She would have a much better time for the entire day with her mother and father.

13. OP not wanting a 5 year old to celebrate Christmas with her and her family puts a big doubt on the sacred nature of the event.
