Guy Gets Fired For Giving Donuts, That Were Going To Be Thrown Away, To The Homeless

So much food is wasted while there are people starving out there.

It has always saddened me to see people wasting perfectly fresh food that they don’t want. I see hungry people on the streets every day. There are children starving to death, yet we are never grateful for the food that we have in our homes. You probably see countless prank videos on the Internet every day where people are just wasting food for a few likes or popularity. If only these people knew what someone would give to have the food that they are so easily throwing away. If wasting food on an individual level disgusts you, wait till you find out what fast-food franchises do.

Since they have to serve fresh food for their customers, at the end of the day, if there is food still left in the trays, the employees are asked to dispose of the leftover food in the garbage. This leftover food is completely fine to eat, yet is it wasted instead of donating to the poor and needy. If that does not break your heart, I don’t know what will.

Bryan Johnston was a former Dunkin Donuts employee who got fired because he donated food to the needy that was about to be thrown away anyway. Even though it was a very nice gesture by Bryan, he was fired as it was against the franchise’s protocol. Read the whole story down below:

The 16-year-old was told to waste so much good food at the end of the day.

He would have to throw away hundreds of fresh donuts every day.

Bryan spoke to Bored Panda, “It’s still very hard to look back to when I replay the whole situation in my head. It felt as though my manager didn’t care that I worked there for 5 months and she didn’t say anything like ‘sad to see you go’ or ‘thanks for being a part of the team.’”

Getting fired did not break Bryan’s spirit.

“People also have been helping me financially until I find a stable source of income which I am beyond blessed for.”

Bryan thinks some franchises are extremely greedy for not putting up a little bit of effort to just donate the leftover food to the needy.

“They would rather just throw away the food at the end of the day instead of paying an employee a couple more man-hours to bring the food to a donation center.”

“Even though it’s up to the store what to do with the waste, most store managers instruct us to throw out the food because they haven’t set up a program to donate. And that roots back to the company itself and not having proper procedures set up in place for the food waste which I find extremely disappointing.”

Bryan is planning to do great things in the future.

“I plan on using my voice to bring light to the issue of how much food waste goes on throughout America each day and how true a problem famine and world hunger is. If companies like Dunkin’ decided to someone reduce the food waste and/or donate the food to the hungry, issues like that would not be as huge of a problem. I still would want to grow on TikTok making positive videos as well as comedy/lifestyle content, but I am hoping to get a lot of people on board with me on how big an issue is that is overseen by so many.”

He wishes to team up with big organizations to continue helping the homeless.

“But right now I’m still kinda shaken by the fact so many people on the internet support me and what I am doing/going to do. It gives me the motivation to continue to be a light in such difficult times in the world.”

In an attempt to support his community, Bryan decided to donate the food that was being thrown away.

He claims they fired him because he was outing them to the public.

Apparently, each franchise has its own choice whether it wants to waste the food or donate it.

Dunkin Donuts does offer a food donation program as an option but it is the franchisee’s choice.

Their reasoning for wasting food is absolutely ridiculous.

They don’t “have” to do anything.

And this doesn’t only happen with food, but other products as well.

A lot of people have received extra food from Dunkin Donuts.

What if someone does not eat the donut on the same day? Will they get sick?

That is just sad.

Keep it a secret so you can continue to help the needy without any hurdles in your way.
