Taking care of a tree means doing lots of stuff like trimming branches, cleaning up leaves, and following strict rules from the Homeowners Association (HOA) about how the tree looks and behaves. It can feel like a big headache really fast.
But sometimes, dealing with a difficult situation can lead to a little bit of fun, especially if the person who owns the tree is being really annoying. It’s not the tree itself that’s the problem, but the person in charge of it. Imagine trying to enjoy your own space, only to be constantly bothered by someone who’s overly particular about their tree. It can get frustrating! 1. Them being butthurt because you did exactly what they asked you do is what I love the most about malicious compliance.
2. OP’s neighbor has a really big tree in his yard with its branches and leaves protruding out into OP’s yard.
3. Getting tired of having to clean up the d*ad leaves day in and day out, OP decided to get a saw and sawed off a few branches that were growing into his property line.
4. The neighbor got to know about this and requested OP it would be great if he could cut the whole tree off.
5. When OP asked for a reward for all the hard work he would be putting in the neighbor offered him a very skewers he had BBQ’d. OP said no.
6. After giving it a thought, OP decided to do it for the neighbor as sawing off the branches separately would take more time and effort as compared to cutting down the entire 20-foot-long tree.
7. OP cut the tree down and informed the neighbor he had to leave to clean up the mess that the cutting made on his side. The neighbor got confused and hesitantly asked OP when will he return to clean his side.
8. OP said he was only requested to cut the tree down and there was no mention of any cleaning up. So he refused to do so and left.
I love this. OP did right. I fully back him on this one. The neighbor wanted him to cut the tre down and it worked. I am just worried that refusal might get OP in big trouble. There was no paperwork done here that could prove the neighbor asked OP to cut that tree. He can simply report OP to HOA for him cutting his tree down without consent. Tree laws are taken very seriously in some areas around the word.
OP should think this through.

9. The neighbor, after having the tree sit in his yard for a year, finally hired someone to have it cleaned up. The relationship between OP and the neighbor has since been very strained.
10. In an edit OP shared cutting that tree down was absolutely legal and there is no way the neighbor can report him for what he did.
11. The guy really insisted OP cut the tree down. His repeated wants were part of the whole convincing factor that made OP do it.
