Homeowners Asks If They Are Wrong For Not Getting Rid Of The Pool Their Neighbor’s Kid Drowned In

Losing a child is one of life’s hardest blows. The pain can linger for years, making it feel like moving forward is impossible. But life, relentless as it is, keeps moving. It doesn’t pause for our sorrow. This truth can be harsh. It means not everyone understands our grief or offers the support we need.

Recently, Reddit user u/thepoolwhere shared a poignant dilemma with the AITA community through the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?“. They and their family moved into a new home with a pool, only to discover that a neighbor’s child had tragically drowned in the same pool. Now, as they navigate their own joy and the weight of another family’s loss, they face a dilemma. How can they enjoy their new home while being sensitive to the tragedy that occurred there? It’s a situation that tugs at the heartstrings and raises questions about empathy, community, and the delicate balance between personal happiness and communal grief.

1. Let’s find out!

2. While looking for a house, OP and her husband found one with a pool in the backyard, and the deal was too good to not take.

3. The reason for the house being so cheap was that a kid in the past had drowned in the pool last summer.

4. The house was really big and the couple knew they would never be able to find such a deal anywhere else, so they decided to put the morbid history of the house behind them and executed the deal.

5. When the couple moved in, the weather was cold so they left the pool empty as it was.

6. However in summer they got it filled up and everyone ended up having a lot of fun, especially the kids

7. However, the same neighbor who lost their son to the pool confronted OP’s husband about them using the pool.

8. A few other neighbors also declared the family using the pool an insensitive act.

9. Considering everything, the couple decided they will not get rid of the pool because it made their kids happy and that’ what mattered the most to them.

I pay my deep condolences to the parents who lost their children. It is a pain no one else can imagine except for those who have felt it the same way. However, the complaints and the reservations are unfair to the new family. It’s not like their act resulted in the kid drowning. If this is the case, then every hospital in which a person passes should instantly be closed. Only this is how the logic can make sense.

OP, on her end, should just make sure that she and her husband are extremely responsible with their kids when it comes to using the pool. As long as that factor is secured, they can use the pool however they want, whenever they want.

Here’s what the internet had to say about this:

10. What happens in the past, stays in the past.

11. And calling the family “horrible” for using your own pool is completely out of line, even if they’re grieving.

12. It’s not their property. If it’s a sore spot for them, they should move.

13. Just make sure you’re taking appropriate precautions to avoid a repeat. That’s it.

14. There is nothing you do that will change their loss.

15. Maybe see if there’s something else you can do, like build a bigger fence or have security cameras there to put the concerns of some of your neighbors to rest.

16. As simple as that.

17. They will never have an answer to this.

18. Just be cautious and do whatever you want. It is your pool.

19. The neighbor needs to go to therapy to work through his issues.

20. All things set aside, the parents will not be able to recover from the pain for a very long time.
