His parents bought him a piano and signed him up for lessons when he was 8, and he became known as the “piano guy” at school. As he grew older, OP began considering quitting piano lessons to explore other interests and balance his extracurricular activities. OP agreed to the deal and worked hard to keep up with piano lessons and maintain his academic performance. OP passed his level 9 RCM exams and informed his dad that he had chosen a BMW X5 plug-in hybrid SUV. However, on his birthday, OP’s dad surprised him with a toy model of the BMW X5 instead of an actual car, citing that he fulfilled his end of the deal by providing a BMW, just not the full-sized one you had in mind. OP’s dad brushed off OP’s disappointment with the reasoning that life isn’t fair.

Feeling betrayed and hurt by his dad’s actions, OP distanced himself from him and viewed his behavior as a breach of trust. Now he wants to know if he’s an A-hole for refusing to forgive his dad.
