His Wife Negotiated A Deal With The Neighbor Who Built A Shed On Their Property Line

Land for Refrigerator Deal

Land is an asset that is said to always appreciate in value over time. Physical products like a car, a house, or an appliance are something that depreciates in value over time with usage and wear and tear. If you know a bit of finance and accounting, you would know there is no depreciation calculated for land because it is a piece of Earth that you own that stays as it is until you modify it.

I mention this because in today’s story a terrible deal with made by a wife that revolved around a piece of land. Reddit user u/MonkeyBreath66 shared that his neighbor had built a shed that was on their side of the property line. OP talked with the neighbor about the situation to settle the situation. The neighbor suggested he could buy that area of OP’s land for $900 and that way the shed would automatically come in the neighbor’s property line. But OP’s wife intervened and got them an even better deal, or at least that is what she thought it was. She ended up convincing the neighbor to buy them a branded fancy refrigerator worth $2200 in exchange for the piece of land that he wanted.

A piece of land for an electronic appliance. You guys, please be the judge of that deal. Scroll down below to read how it all went down!

1. Let’s find out did the two neighbors settled on a refrigerator.

2. The neighbor’s background is kind of joint with OP’s house’s backyard. There is a fence separating the two.

3. One day, OP got to know their neighbors had built a shed right on their property line. It was literally a foot off the fence.

4. OP called his neighbor to talk about the situation. They decided to meet face-to-face.

5. OP wanted his neighbor to take the shed at least 10 feet back.

6. The neighbor shared his logic about why he couldn’t build the shed anywhere else but where he built it.

7. To settle things, OP’s neighbor offered him $900 to buy a piece of that side of the property to make things right. That is when OP’s wife got involved.

Yes, the neighbor shouldn’t have built the shed there, it may cause issues during surveys and inspections. But, this what I just read is something concerning. Now, the neighbor just opened a deal about OP selling that piece of land to him so the shed would automatically come in the neighbor’s property line. We will have to read the remainder of the story to know how the negotiations went but in any case, I don’t think OP should get involved in such kind of a deal.

This is a piece of land that we are talking about. No matter what amount he sells the land for, the buyer will always win. The land will always rise in price. I don’t want to say much until we get to the end. Let’s see what happens next. Scroll down below to continue reading!

8. OP’s wife knew the neighbor very well and knew exactly how to deal with him.

9. She made a deal that in order to buy the land, the neighbor would have to get them a refrigerator worth $2200.

10. If he refuses to agree with the deal, the wife said she will just call the zone enforcement people who will impose a heavy fine on the neighbor.

11. The neighbor agreed to the refrigerator deal and that is how the matter got settled.

Okay! So this was a disaster for OP. He should’ve never allowed his wife to make the deal. I really thought they would pull out of the deal and come up with some other solution but no, they actually sold a piece of their land to the neighbor. Now $2200 does sound like a very good deal for a piece of land that properly didn’t use too much. But it isn’t cash, it is an electronic appliance. The thing about land is that it always appreciates in value over time. Tangible products, however, always depreciate in value over time. That refrigerator would be worthless in 5 to 6 years’ time. But that land may actually appreciate tenfold in value within a year.

It was a terrible deal! The negotiator was even terrible!

Here’s what the internet had to say about this:

12. It is good that she dealt with confidence but the deal itself was very bad.

13. OP’s side threw it away.

14. It may take some time for OP to cool off once he realizes what just happened. Good thing they have a refrigerator, now, to make the process quick.

15. The option suggested by this Redditor is so much better. Selling the land is never considered a good thing to do.
