Mother Tells “It’s Easy Being A Perfect Parent When You Don’t Have Kids” To An Infertile Woman

Unless you yourself haven’t become a parent, there is no way you can fully understand the true significance of the challenges that come with it. No parent can do it all, they will always lack in some areas. And the gap is filled with nothing but experience. You take a hit, you get up, you do it differently, and repeat the process until it works. So one should never be judgemental towards any parent because only the parent knows what is actually going on internally and how much patience are they raising their kid.

Redditor user GrandFirefighter816 is a mom. Her brother’s girlfriend, Giana,  is an infertile woman who loves judging other parents she knows and always says how she would do a much better job as a parent with her future kids. One time, at birthday dinner of her dinner, OP didn’t dress her son well and he started crying. Giana was quick to taunt her for being a bad mom. The very next day OP lost her son for a couple of minutes at the mall. Giana was there as well and she criticized OP once again. This time OP didn’t have the energy to take it anymore so she snapped back at Giana by telling her a woman can only be a perfect mother if she does not have any kids. Giana thought OP aimed this at her infertility, got extremely upset, and left the mall with her boyfriend.

The matter was sent to the community members of the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” by OP to know if she comments she made to Giana made her an AH or not.

Scroll down below to read how it all went down!

1. AITA community members really get all sorts of randomness to judge.

2. So Giana is very judgemental towards parents she knows and I believe she will be the center of our story.

3. It seems like Giana knows all about parenting and is ambitious to be that “perfect mom”.

4. Okay, this is news. Giana is infertile.

5. One day while celebrating her father’s birthday, OP had a little trouble with her little baby but things got resolved within 5 minutes…no problem. But Giana started bragging about how such a situation would never occur with her future kids.

6. The very next day OP had another incident with her baby, he got lost at the mall. Tommy found him within minutes and he was in perfect shape and health.

7. This had happened for the first time that her son had wandered off so it took some time to recover from what had just happened.

8. Giana, however, who was also with them at the mall again started criticizing OP for bad parenting. This is twice in two days.

9. Already in shock after what had just happened, OP snapped back at Giana with a comment that she took to heart and got upset about.

10. Both Tommy and Giana called OP insensitive for saying such a thing and declared her an AH.

NTA. It is entirely Giana’s fault she took it that way. It made her think of her infertility when OP said that, OP didn’t make her think about it, she did it herself. And because that is the thought that struck her first after that comment, she blended the two together and got heavily offended by it.

Besides, what OP said wasn’t wrong. There is no concept of a perfect parent. Incidents happen, and failures take place, that is how you learn and become a better parent. It is a continuous process. Giana better not think about adoption or insemination if she doesn’t have a grip on this basic concept of parenting. Or else, she too won’t be a perfect mother and would bury deep in the pile of regret she will feel after realizing how terribly she treated all the other parents.

Here’s what the internet had to say about this:

11. People assume things and matters get worse. Why not ask for clarification there and then, and clear the matter?

12. Giana will only realize the true challenges once she becomes a mother herself. Hope that day comes soon.
