You can never lie forever. The truth will always prevail, sooner or later. In today’s story Reddit user u/BeautifulWorking6 shared that when her brother-in-law’s wife gave birth, he kept mentioning the paternity test. OP felt it was weird of him to keep bringing it up. So one day when no one was around she decided to ask her BIL what he meant when he mentioned the term “paternity test”. Turns out he was under the impression that the hospital automatically does a paternity test every time a baby is born to confirm who the father is. This confused OP a lot who decided to clear the concept for him by telling him paternity tests are only done if the parents want to do it, doctors don’t do it automatically. She shared her own case that she and her husband also didn’t have one and manually wrote in the name of the father of the baby in the form for the creation of the birth certificate.
This resulted in BIL getting extremely quiet and when his wife returned home the two started fighting. The fight resulted in a huge truth coming out. BIL’s wife had been cheating on him for 6 years…the child wasn’t his. She was the one who had been lying to BIL about the hospital doing the paternity test automatically so she could make him believe he was the father.
Because their relationship got ruined, OP felt bad for telling BIL what paternity tests meant. So asked the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to know if accidentally telling the truth made him wrong or not. Scroll down below to read the story!

OP was NTA. It is a good thing that the truth came out this way. But oh my god, BIL’s wife had been lying to her husband about the hospital doing the paternity tests regularly which made him believe he was the father. He had no idea how that test worked so he believed what his wife said. OP’s clarity made him realize what trickery his wife had been playing on him…turns out for 6 long years.
I feel so bad for BIL.

Here’s an update OP shared on the situation. A lot of truth came out:
17. They had done a paternity test for their first kid and the results showed the father was his wife’s ex. But she lied to BIL and he never asked to see the papers. That saved her.
18. This woman is evil…nothing but evil.
19. This woman should be jailed for running such a scheme.
20. The only reason why BIL decided to stay with his wife was the kids.
21. The negotiations with the baby daddy of the first kid are on. He may cease the child support or get to visit the child. Again, poor BIL.
