After she found out her in-laws were flying over to see her new baby, Reddit user u/Pleasant-Vanilla-216 got really excited and started making all sorts of preparations for their arrival and stay. When they arrived, OP’s MIL demanded she use OP’s en-suite bathroom. OP didn’t allow her MIL because that would result in her walking through her bedroom and dressroom which felt like an invasion of privacy to OP. She would also be breastfeeding her baby in the room most of the time so that was also something OP said would get compromised as her MIL required to lay down on the bed after she takes a shower because it would exhaust her.
Ultimately, when her in-laws went home, OP’s MIL made a comment about how uncomfortable the trip was, and that really upset OP. She felt as if all her efforts went to waste because of that comment.

2. When OP’s newborn turned 3 months old, her in-laws planned to visit her from another country…OP was excited as she didn’t see them much.
3. OP made all sorts of efforts a good daughter-in-law would in order to prepare for her in-laws’ arrival and stay.
4. That is a pretty big house and I really like the renting strategy.
5. OP chooses her lodgers very carefully so there is no risk of safety and security.
6. The issue was that OP’s MIL wanted to use her en-suite bathroom. This is a problem because it would result in MIL walking through OP’s bedroom and even her dressing room.
7. Due to health reasons, she lays down after taking a shower because it would exhaust her. So using any of the other bathrooms would just make it really uncomfortable for her.
8. Because OP’s baby was still an infant, she spent a lot of time breastfeeding her baby. Often when the milk would leak, OP would have to spend time cleaning the room over and over again.
9. So OP didn’t want her personal space to be intruded and that is why she told her MIL she wouldn’t let her use her en-suite bathroom.
Honestly speaking, if the mother didn’t want to get out of her comfort zone she should’ve stayed at her home. And she really did want to see her grandchild, if she was too eager to do it, then she just should’ve booked a hotel instead of staying at OP’s house. She did so much to prepare for their arrival.
When you go stay at someone else’s house, you have to show some flexibility. I am sure OP did the best she could to make sure her in-laws had the best possible time staying at their house.

10. The mother-in-law started crying after being rejected. But OP didn’t crumble under emotion and firmly stood her ground.
11. The their visit finally ended, OP drove her in-laws to the airport and she pointed out in the car how uncomfortable the whole trip was for her.
12. That comment really upset OP.
13. Because her in-laws were so firmly declaring OP an AH for what she did, she decided to leave her fate at the hands of the AITA community.
