Being in a relationship and living together definitely requires open communication to lead a smooth life. Once you share the same living space with your partner, you definitely decide some house rules such as paying the bills, running errands, house chores, who can come to your place and who can’t, etc. Either of the partners who own the property still has an upper hand to decide unless you’re partners in everything and equally contributing. Hereby, decision-making should always be mutual but the one who owns the property is the veto. If something happens against that decision it definitely would be counted as a betrayal of trust.
In today’s AITA post, OP and his girlfriend live together in a space that is basically owned by OP. He moreover, financially supports both of them majorly, since the girlfriend is pursuing a master’s degree at the moment. The GF has a sister who has a shady past record of all the life decisions she has made, she moreover is a highly inconsistent person who can not withstand her decisions for a long time. The GF’s sister has two kids that too from different fathers, doesn’t work, married and divorced twice, and recently broke up with god knows what number of boyfriends. The sister needed a space to move in since she had absolutely nothing on her hands, the op’s GF asked him if her sister could come live with them to which OP straightaway refused. OP’s GF without his consent still let her sister make her way to their private residence and had even provided her with a key!
There were reasons why OP didn’t let the sister have access to his property but his GF went behind his back. Feeling deceived and betrayed, OP decided to change all the locks and even change the garage’s access code, even his GF would now have to take proper permission before entering. Past behavior is going to determine the future consequences, OP already had experienced the devious behavior of the sister hereby, he thought it would be better if he stays out of the matter which makes sense! The girlfriend should have considered OP’s decency towards her and shouldn’t have let her sister into their private life. OP had already been covering up financially for both of them, a third person had absolutely no right to come and put their burden in too. OP is all justified for not wanting the sister and her kids to invade their personal space!

OP was right being infuriated and enraged by the whole incident, if he didn’t want somebody unwanted roaming around his house, it’s totally justified. He furthermore being aware of the nature of the sister made this decision hereby his GF going against his will is ridiculous. Let’s see how long it takes for Ashton to gain back her trust so she can have access to his home and heart both.
