Son Stole Rare Toy Belonging To Father’s Brother Who Wanted To Get Police Involved

We all have a very strong, mutual view on stealing or robbery. Unless you are a robber or a thief, then you have the exact opposite view but you get what I mean. It is discouraged. No one likes it and no one wants to be on the bad end of it. We all heavily discourage it and teach our children against it from the very beginning. Whenever we see or find out someone has stolen something, our first instinct is to report that person. But here’s the big question…what if your own child steals something from someone? Now that is something that makes you think a little before deciding whether to file a report or not. That would put you in a bit of chaos.

That is exactly what happened with Reddit user u/toohottooheavy when his son stole a $2000 figure from OP’s brother’s rare toy collection. The son had opened the packaging of the action figure which had resulted in it losing all its value. This angered OP’s brother who threatened to sue him and call the police. OP had no idea what to do.

OP soon shared an update on the matter:

10. OP called his brother to confirm everything as he offered to pay in full.

11. OP confirmed that the figure was indeed valued at a whopping $2000.

12. OP’s brother decided he won’t be suing anyone after his insurance agreed to pay him for the figure. But in order to get the payment he would have to file a police report against his nephew for stealing.

I personally think they shouldn’t pay the brother and she should file a police report directly against OP’s son for stealing. He is 15 years old, he knows very well what stealing means and how bad it is. He needs to understand that, maybe he has forgotten about it because of the attractive value of the figure. If OP settles things by paying, his son will never learn his lesson and may steal something again in the future. This way he will get a genuine warning and the fear of being sent to jail may actually make him stop doing it again.

16. And this is why OP has agreed with his brother to file a police report against him or his nephew in order to have the insurance pay him the value of his figure.

17. Some called this a harsh treatment but OP wanted to teach his son a lesson in time before he completely lost his son to the world of thieving and robbery forever.

Here’s what the internet had to say. You guessed it! It is about the age of the son:

18. That is exactly what I thought. That final paragraph in the original story shocked me when I got to know the kid wasn’t a kid, he was a mid-way teenager.

19. At 7 you probably don’t even know how to spell the words robbery or stealing. At 15, you are fully aware of what it is and its consequences.

20. I genuinely thought the kid liked the toy and picked it up. Didn’t know he had plans to make a profit from it.
