Christmas dinners are all about family get-togethers. But sometimes people like taking advantage of being the host and imposing their self-created rules trying to ruin the tradition or the way things really work. In today’s story Reddit user u/omom2122 shared that as it was her turn to host the Christmas dinner, she decided to create a rule that didn’t allow anyone to consume alc*hol at her house. Her in-laws loved drinking and she hated it so this rule was precisely imposed to have them avoid drinking at her house. However, the plan completely backfired as when OP’s SIL got to know about this rule regarding no drinking, she set up an alternative gathering and invited all family members there including OP and her husband.
Because OP’s husband also loved drinking, he wanted to go to that gathering as well and wanted OP to come along. OP refused to go and made her husband stay at home as well which made him really mad. OP was upset that her husband prioritized his sister’s gathering over a Christmas dinner hosted by his own wife.

1. Let’s find out.
2. OP’s in-laws love drinking and she totally hates it.
3. For the relevant Christmas, it was decided OP would host the dinner. Because it would get hosted at her house, she decided to ban alc*hol consumption.
4. When OP’s SIL called to ask what she could bring at the dinner, OP told her about the no alc*hol rule that she had set for Christmas.
5. OP’s sister didn’t say much. She simply hosted an alternative gathering where almost all the in-laws decided to go over OP’s Christmas dinner just so they could drink.
Lowkey, OP had it coming. Just because it is her house doesn’t mean you strip people of their habits. She knows very well that her in-laws like to drink and there is no better day than Christmas day to enjoy all your favorite habits on an exponential basis. Announcing no one would be allowed to drink at her Christmas dinner was bound to get this reaction from the in-laws. Morality-wise, sure you are doing a good job but come on, those who are of the age to drink can decide their future very well.

10. It isn’t their fault your dad was alc*holic and probably didn’t know how to control himself. Perhaps, these guys know how to drink while staying within the limit.
