Employee Thinks Her Co-Workers Excuses For Time-Off Are Dumb And Involves The Manager

Every business has its own work culture.

If you’ve worked at a few different companies, you’ll know that each one has a unique work culture. Some employees prioritise coworker harmony because their jobs rely on them being team players. However, because the work may be specialised, there are some companies where everyone is only concerned with themselves as individuals. I’m not saying one is superior to the other. When we start a new job, it is our responsibility to integrate as much as possible into the new work culture, as long as it is not toxic.

However, not everyone does this, and some people take advantage when they see a company that gives their employees a lot of leeway. That’s the type of person this woman appears to be. When she first started out, she was a hard worker who got along with everyone on the team. However, as soon as her probation period ended, she began making up excuses in order to take a day off. This obviously had an impact on everyone on the team, and they were not pleased.

Right from the start, it is clear that this is a very unique company.

And not everyone would be a great fit for this kind of team which this woman proved a few months later.

Apparently, she always has a reason as to why she can’t come to work.

And since the manager is hands-off, she never got any punishment for it.

So OP decided to tell the manager what was happening.

This obviously led to the woman getting in trouble which she is upset about.

While she does provide reasons for her inability to attend, not all of them appear to be valid. And why would she require so many days off? According to the information I have, it is quite clear that she is taking advantage of the relaxed system and hoping that no one will notice. I feel bad for all the other employees who had to shoulder her workload when she wasn’t there. She may be a hard worker, but she does not appear to be a good fit for this team. That is perfectly acceptable. After all, not everyone is meant to be a team player.

People in the comments however think it was the right thing to do.

She simply doesn’t sound like a good fit for the team at all.

To be fair the boss might not care but the other employees have to take on the workload.

OP shouldn’t have to keep someone in line since that isn’t their job.

Perhaps this is what happened.

This is a very important distinction.

We don’t have a lot of information here so we can only judge on what we do have.
