Person Asks If He Would Be Wrong For Canceling Christmas Because He Can’t Afford It

Cancelling Christmas

Christmas is an event everyone anxiously waits for throughout the year. It’s about putting all the stress aside and cherishing all the good things in life, creating new happy memories to cherish on the next Christmas, and then of course the gifts. Although the main gist of it is about the families getting together and spending some quality time, parents still like giving their children presents on this day, and children anxiously wait for them.

Everyone gets excited when Christmas comes closer but Reddit user u/CapnDonkey kept getting concerned and nervous with the big day approaching. OP was under a lot of financial stress when the year’s Christmas approached. He felt a terrible feeling in his stomach thinking about putting up a fake tree for Christmas and not being able to put any gifts for anyone under it.

Considering himself a failed husband and father for not being able to generate financial stability within his family, OP decided to just skip that year’s Christmas. The thought of doing so troubled him so he shared his story with the community members of the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to know if the decision he is about to take is right or wrong.

The internet mutually decided it wasn’t right of OP to cancel Christmas just because he didn’t have many to make it fancy. Here are some of the comments shared on the story:

6. Just decorate your tree with the stuff you already have. It won’t cost anything. Besides, Christmas is about memories so even if you don’t put up a tree, it is fine.

8. Sympathies with OP, but this is not how you deal with financial distress. Christmas is a festival that takes us far away from such stress.

This picture makes me really happy. It would have made me feel so terrible had OP actually gone on and canceled the Christmas. This is because his definition of celebrating Christmas was so wrong. He was so focused on fulfilling the material needs of the festival not realizing it is all about a nice chit-chat over a delicious dinner.

I am excited about this update. I want to know what OP thinks now, has he changed or is he still going to remain an AH? Scroll down below to continue reading!
