Reddit user u/sharpredthrowaway came across a situation that they couldn’t resist sharing at the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?“. OP’s roommate recently got a dog and when he is away, which mostly means he is at work, his dog keeps barking all the time. Because the walls of their student apartment are very thin, the loud barks annoy OP a lot. When she texted her roommate about this he got angry. He responded by saying he knew always that she wasn’t okay with his dog right from the start. OP told him she said she would be okay with the dog if none of the responsibility came on her about calming it or taking care of it in any way.
Scroll down below to read how it all went down.
1. When OP decided to inform her roommate about the dog constantly barking, he responded by saying she should take care of the matter herself as he can’t do anything from his office, away from the apartment.
2. OP agreed to her roommate getting a dog but on one condition that she will not be responsible for the dog, it will be his job entirely to look after it.
3. So no contract bounded OP to look after the dog.
Here’s what the internet had to say:
4. I think he should get the dog admitted to daycare.
5. OP shouldn’t have agreed to her roommate getting a dog in the first place.
6. I am assuming this message is for the roommate.
7. Dog parenting is not an easy job to do, OP should’ve known that.
OP was NTA in this case. In fact, her roommate should take it upon himself to train his dog to stop it from acting like this when he is away. You cannot expect other people to do your job. That dog is the roommate’s responsibility and he should look after it. Also, it is not easy for a person to take responsibility for someone else’s dog, things could go south.
So, OP was in the right for rejecting to look after the dog because the dog is not hers.
8. OP did not agree to the consequences of a dog.
9. While most people said OP was NTA, some people said she was wrong for not taking care of the dog.
10. The roommate cannot do anything from his office so OP should show some character and check up on the dog.
11. It was the roommate’s decision to get the dog so it should be the roommate’s headache to deal with it.
12. You are universally an AH if you know an animal is going nuts and don’t do anything about it.
13. It is the owner’s job to look after their dog.
14. The roommate really is being lazy and unfair to the dog.
I really hope you guys enjoyed this one. Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments section below.
